Short Summary
PSLE Chinese Compass is a local-first learning app. In the current version:
- We do not require an account.
- We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location, photos, microphone audio, contacts, payment information, or government identifiers.
- We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, social SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell personal data.
- Learning progress is stored on the device so the app can show practice history, mastery, scores, assignments, and parent notes.
Information Stored on the Device
The app stores learning and parent-review information locally on the device, including:
- practice attempts, selected answers, correctness, and timestamps;
- exam scores, exam answers, and timer results;
- mastered Chinese characters and pinyin progress;
- XP, hearts, streaks, levels, badges, daily missions, and gamified progress;
- parent-created assignments;
- parent assessment notes entered in the app;
- selected learning focus and app settings.
This information is stored using the app WebView's local storage on the device. It is used only to provide app features such as personalized practice, progress tracking, gamified rewards, parent review, and exam readiness.
Parents should avoid entering sensitive personal information into free-text assessment notes.
Information We Do Not Collect
The current app does not collect or transmit personal information to a server controlled by PSLE Chinese Compass. In particular, the app does not request access to:
- precise or approximate location;
- camera;
- microphone;
- contacts;
- calendar;
- SMS or call logs;
- device advertising ID;
- phone number;
- files outside the app's own bundled learning content.
Internet Permission and External Links
The Android app includes the INTERNET permission because it runs the learning experience in an Android WebView and serves bundled app assets through a local HTTPS-style app host. The current learning content is bundled with the app.
If a user taps a future external website link, Android may open that website in the user's browser. External websites are governed by their own privacy policies.
Children and Family Privacy
The app is intended to be used by children with parent involvement. We design the app to minimize children's data and keep learning progress local to the device.
The current version does not show ads, does not use behavioral advertising, does not profile children for advertising, and does not transmit children's personal information to third parties.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
Because the current app does not send learning progress to a PSLE Chinese Compass server, there is no server-side sharing of practice attempts, exam scores, parent notes, or word mastery.
We may disclose information only if required by applicable law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of users or others. In the current local-only implementation, we do not normally possess user learning data on our systems.
Retention and Deletion
Learning progress remains on the device until it is deleted by the user or the operating system.
Users can delete local app data by:
- uninstalling the app; or
- clearing the app's storage/data in Android system settings.
The current version does not create user accounts, so there is no server account to delete and no server-side user data to erase.
Automatic Android backup is disabled for the app to reduce the chance that local child learning progress and parent notes are copied to cloud backup services.
Security
We use a local-first design and avoid unnecessary sensitive permissions. Local data is protected by the device's normal operating-system security controls. Users should keep the device locked and avoid sharing the device with people who should not see the child's progress or parent notes.
No method of storage is perfectly secure. If we add account sync, cloud backup, analytics, payments, or other online features in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy before those features are released.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes or when legal, platform, or operational requirements change. The effective date at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated.
